Spring Weems Edmond, Oklahoma: Woman Found Murdered, Thrown into Trash by Adopted Son

Authorities have identified Spring Weems as the woman found murdered Wednesday afternoon inside a trash can outside her home in far north Edmond, a case that has shocked the community and prompted an ongoing homicide investigation.

According to the Logan County Sheriff’s Office and the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation (OSBI), deputies were initially dispatched to a residence near Bryant and Simmons Road along Treviso Trail following a 911 call reporting two teenagers fighting. Investigators later confirmed the disturbance was reported by family members who were present at the home at the time.

Upon arrival, deputies quickly learned the fight was connected to a far more serious incident.
“As soon as we arrived, there was a statement made that the body was going to be in a trash can outside of the home,” said Logan County Undersheriff Troy Dykes.

Deputies located a deceased woman inside a trash can along the street.
“Yes, we’ve located a body, it is located in a trash can, and confirmed it is a fatality,” Dykes said.

OSBI later identified the victim as Spring Weems, the adoptive mother of the two teenagers who lived in the home. Investigators said Weems was the sole caretaker of the juveniles, and the only people residing at the residence were Weems and the two teens.

Both juveniles were initially detained and questioned for several hours. One was later released, while the other—whose name has not been released due to age—was arrested on a complaint of first-degree murder. The teen was booked into a Canadian County juvenile detention center, as it is the closest facility equipped to house juvenile suspects, according to OSBI.

Investigators said Weems’ body showed injuries consistent with homicide, though authorities have not disclosed the nature of those injuries or whether a weapon was used.
“One of the parties involved made a statement saying, ‘Mom is in the trash can,’” Dykes said.

OSBI officials stated the arrested juvenile is currently the only person believed to be connected to the killing. Authorities are continuing to interview neighbors and gather evidence as the investigation remains active.

Spring Weems was originally from Pueblo, Colorado, and was a graduate of Westmoore High School. Her death has left neighbors stunned, describing the area as typically quiet and family-oriented.

“This is a heartbreaking situation,” said OSBI spokesperson Hunter McKee. “We’re going to try to find justice for this case.”

Officials have not released further details about what may have led up to the killing. Anyone with information related to the case is urged to contact the Logan County Sheriff’s Office or the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation as the investigation continues.
